How to Attend a Virtual Career Fair: April 9th, 2020

If you are looking for a new position, our upcoming Virtual Corridor Career Fair on April 9th will be a great place to interact with employers from the comfort of your home. But if you are wondering how to attend a virtual career fair, here’s how you can do it.

Step 1. Register online.

Go to and complete the registration form. All attendees must register. Bookmark this website for later, or save to your home screen on your cell phone.

Step 2. Review your resume.

Do you need to update your resume? If you have an outdated resume, now is the time to get polished up. Review it for typos and if you’ve learned new skills recently, update that. Be sure to include any remote working technical skills you have (zoom/teleconferencing, virtual presentations, etc.) or anything relevant to our current affairs.

Step 3. Block off time April 9th from 3-6 p.m.

Set a reminder on your cell phone or calendar to make sure you remember to visit the career fair when it is open. The virtual career fair will be live at 3 p.m. at

Step 4. Write down some questions to ask recruiters.

Just like at an in-person career fair, you can ask questions about company culture, individual job opportunities, a typical career path for a position, that sort of thing. These can be conversational questions and are a chance for you to learn more about the company and for them to learn about you.

Tips for cell phones – if you are joining the career fair from a cell phone, type your questions in your ‘notes’ app or similar so you can quickly copy and paste them rather than retyping them. If you created your resume with the Corridor Careers resume builder, you can download the resume to your phone to upload it to a recruiter. Or if you used another tool, email your resume to yourself, and download it from your email app on your phone. This will make it easier to upload if needed.

Step 5. Be patient, professional and assume good intentions.

Understand that these are crazy times for employers, too, and many recruiters may still be updating their company’s hiring practices in response to COVID-19. They may not have all the answers regarding available positions and the policies around who can work from home and how they will onboard new employees. You can certainly ask about how each company is handling things, but don’t discount an employer if they respond that they are still working on their policies and procedures.

  • Chat should still be professional. You can be more relaxed in a chat session with a recruiter, but doublecheck your spelling and maintain a professional manner in your back and forth. Also, if the recruiter doesn’t get right back to you, don’t assume they are ignoring you. They may be chatting simultaneously with another candidate.
  • Turn on your data (if you can) when you are attending the career fair in case your wi-fi is spotty (or too many are on your wi-fi at home). This will help you stay connected while visiting the booths or participating in Chat.
  • Marion Public Library, among others, have boosted their wi-fi signal, if you do not have great connectivity at home. Just practice social distancing, and stay in your car in the library parking lot.
